Kenny Chesney FAIL
August 20th, 2010 § 0
Thanks to Every Day Should Be Saturday for thisĀ hilariously scathing takedown of some football-oriented country crap rock from Kenny Chesney.
A sample paragraph:
He sucks, and most things do, but when he dips his toes across into the realm of football they deserve to be chainsawed off at the nearest convenience. The entire song is supposedly about football, but it’s really about how Kenny Chesney should be bound and gagged, bundled into an uninsulated rocket filled with honey badgers, and shot into the sun. Oddly enough, this is what we think every Kenny Chesney song is about. Hm.
The Steven Slater song!

Love it. (I assume everyone has heard about the JetBlue flight attendant that flipped out.)
Insect sushi
August 7th, 2010 § 2
I had a joking Facebook exchange earlier this week involving using a dead cockroach as part of that evening’s dinner. And then I saw a story this morning on insect sushi in Japan and I realized that I could have made cockroach sushi, if I only I’d been gentler with my shoe. OK, I’m going to go throw up–these photos are horrible.

Starbucks pricing fail
July 16th, 2010 § 0
Vanessa and I are staying with her folks on Long Island for a couple more days before our movers arrive from California and we can start occupying our new apartment. I’ve been beating the heat and going to the local Starbucks to get some work done. Starbucks’ drinks all taste watered down to me, either overwhelmed by the hot water (Americano) or the milk (latte), so today I ordered a double short Americano. That way, I would get the desired two shots, but in 8 oz. of water rather than 12 oz. The total came back as something approaching $3, which was quite a shock, given that a tall Americano (which comes with two shots) is $1.95. Apparently the short Americano is only a dime less than a tall Americano, but an extra shot costs $0.76 (and then there is tax). Shouldn’t the combo be cheaper? Starbucks gets the benefit of reduced paper costs and uses less water, but charges much more? It’s possible that the cash register gal got it wrong, but I can’t confirm–short prices aren’t listed on the board.
Maybe next time I’ll order a tall but ask them to serve it in a short cup; odds are I will get in a semantics argument with them as to whether that makes the drink a short or a tall.
Enjoying the Fourth of July in Carmel
July 6th, 2010 § 2
Mino and Meghan joined me in Carmel for a relaxing weekend filled with soccer viewing and good weather. (Certainly better weather than what there is back in NYC right now, with highs around 100 over the weekend–yikes!) On Sunday, we walked down to the beach to take in the surf, the thick smoke from camp fires and the nice views.
