    Thanks for posting. The author’s explanation for why my gmail account is more hackable without SSL enabled makes no sense to me, but I’ll take his word for it. I’ve changed my gmail settings.

    I think it’s basically that SSL encrypts the information that flows between your computer and Google’s servers, so if someone is snooping on your connection (such as if you are using public WiFi at a cafe), they could grab account login information, etc. Whereas SSL encrypts that, so a snooper sees gobbledy-gook.
